Ryan Hoffmann is an artist currently based in
Melbourne/Naarm, Australia. He completed his MFA between the National Art School of
Australia and the Glasgow School of Art in 2014. He has lived and
worked in Sydney, Glasgow, Berlin, and Melbourne.
His work deals with ideas of light, atmosphere, place and, memory. A material language referencing painting traditions is manipulated to create forms and shaped supports that explore these ideas through surface, colour, material and light. The ever-shifting quality of his work is present in the sculptural forms and surfaces interacting with their environment.
The titles reference time, personal anecdotes, and specific locations. This creates a cohesive catalogue within an ongoing process. A continuation that more broadly explores temporality and impermanence.
